The newest episode of God of War which everyone is looking forward to will lead us quite untypically to the North because it was inspired by Norse mythology. This means that after six instalments originating from Greece mythology, we will see something different, something new. But now it seems that the developers are planning to experiment even more, not to stay with Norse mythology for too long and immediately move on.
Cory Barlog, a creative director at Santa Monica Studio, has just stated that the series started to be less and less popular and tended to be kind of boring so they wanted to give it a new impulse. Due to that, they moved to a different mythology but they would like to keep it moving so it’s possible we could also meet Egyptian or Mayan mythology.
The fact that there was a need to restart the series a bit is also confirmed by considering that the new episode has completely different control and camera style. At the same time, Kratos is no longer such a big badass but he takes care of his son and teaches him how to hunt and fight. These changes should connect players with Kratos more tightly and cause that everyone will remember the story for a long time.
Now, we just need to wait and see if this connection works, if the whole series moves the right way and if we can really enjoy new mythologies. The new episode of God of War will be released exclusively on PlayStation 4 during 2018 while some rumours say we could expect it in March. An unusually long campaign should be present in the game as well.
