We don’t have to argue about the success of Nintendo Switch, it’s a fact. And since Nintendo wants to keep this leading position, it’s trying to innovate the console more and more. Due to that, a new Nintendo Labo system has just been announced.
Nintendo Labo is just a set of cardboards which you can create your own toys from. Does it sound weird and not related to Switch? Well, it actually is. You can create objects such as a piano or a motorbike, fill them with your Joy-Cons and make them interactive and cooperating with your own console. And that sounds very attractive!
The created toys are called “Toy-Cons” and should be available since 20th April in two different variants. The first one called “Toy-Con 01 Variety Kit” will offer the mentioned piano, a fishing rod, motorcycle handles, a house and two RC models powered by Joy-Cons. The price is rather high, $69.99.
The second variant “Toy-Con 02 Robot Kit” is even more expensive because it will cost $79.99. In this package, you will find just a one toy but much bigger and more advanced. You will have an opportunity to create a cardboard set which you will take on and use to control a giant robot who will be the main character in a Switch game.
The advantage of the whole idea is that it enhances children’s curiosity and DIY skills and on top of that, it allows them to better understand how some of machines work thanks to reliable mechanisms inside the toys. All these Toy-Cons can be also fully customized by your own drawings or stickers (or buy a Nintendo’s Customization Set) so you can create completely original pieces. The concept follows the slogan “Make-Play-Discover”.
The only question is how durable the cardboard material is and what lifetime we can expect. It would be definitely sad if we spent quite much money and then threw the Toy-Cons away after several months. A video which fully introduces Nintendo Labo can be seen below at the end of the article. You can also visit Nintendo Labo official website.
